Welcome to Reviewing Research on AI in Education
What does research say about how generative AI impacts teaching, learning, and instructional design?
Hello! I’m Dr. David Wiley. My PhD is in Instructional Psychology and Technology, and for over 20 years now I’ve been studying ways to use technology to make teaching and learning more effective, affordable, and accessible.
To say “there’s a lot of hype associated with generative AI in education” would be an understatement. Recently I’ve found myself wishing there was someone I could follow who is staying up-to-date with high quality empirical research on the impacts of generative AI on teaching and learning. Unable to find anyone, I’ve decided to do it for myself. And I thought others might be interested, too.
Reviewing Research on AI in Education has modest goals for now. I don’t intend to go backward in time to find and post about previously published research - this blog is for tracking and sharing new research. I’ll also be sharing a Zotero library containing all the articles I write about here.
I hope this turns out to be useful, at least to me. 😅 If you have ideas or suggestions - including articles I’ve missed - please let me know.
You can read my full bio over on my personal website, https://davidwiley.org. I also do longer form blogging about openness in education, generative AI in education, and adjacent topics at https://opencontent.org/blog/.
